A few years ago, Intel and AMD began develop on a 64 Bit Processors to access greater memory. Around the same time Windows released XP in 64 Bit along with all future versions of their Operating Systems. Microsoft last week has announced that Windows 7 64 bit has been installed on 46% of the computers running Windows 7 with 80% of new computers has Windows 7 64 bit pre-installed. These numbers are beginning to show a shift into the market as Windows is one of the largest Consumer Operating System. They have already fully migrated their business, or server, line into a full 64 bit Operating System and expecting next version of Windows to be 64 bit only.
Why the move full 64 bit computing? The answer is easy, more is greater, the access to higher level of RAM and Space is needed. We are currently reaching our limits to 32 bit system and developers are seeking more power. As Unix, or Linux, based Operating System like Mac OS has been supporting it for years now; they simply do not have the market to hold their ground like Microsoft does. This is advancement in technology as we move to 64 bit we must begin to develop for it.
